Oldest Law Book For Soccer Sold!
FIFA Laws of the Game are a set of rules and guidelines as to how soccer should be played with as little interference as possible; in other words the game should “flow” as much as possible. With this being the case, referees should not stop the game for doubtful or trifling infractions.
An auction buyer at London’s Sothebys paid just a little over $1.4M USD for a handwritten soccer rulebook that was first published in 1858! It is believed to be the oldest soccer rulebook governing the modern game of soccer.
The document apparently contains references to indirect freekicks and corner kicks.Sheffield FC sold the rulebook to raise money… I wonder if the book was worth more than the club?
